My office

One of the many PLEASURES of being a psychologist is that you always get your own office!!! And you can decorate it any way you want it! I don't have a great knack of decorating but I wanted to personalize the space and make it as comfortable and warm as I could for my clients. So far, they all like it.

What do you think of the "client corner" of my office?

interesting choice of colors and shapes...it has a warm feeling...just needs a little bit of "comfort" added to it.....

since its about helping others there are two minor suggestions I have - if its OK would like to share....

and how do I redeem the bill?

Solitaire said...

@ Prakhar,

Yeah there are three lamps in my office. Background mein bedsheet hai which is now a wall sheet!!

Oh don't be jealous. I am sure there are lots of things about your job that you like and i would want to have!

Solitaire said...

@ tuhin,

Hahahha!! right now, it has miniature candy. They say chocolate does perk one's mood up!

Solitaire said...

@ Peter,

Haha!! This IS the special corner for everyone, whether or not you have a psychological disorder.

Solitaire said...

@ Enigma,

Thank you!

Solitaire said...

@ Vrij,

Hahahahah!!! Belly dancer bhi laa doo?

Its a bedsheet..not a saree!

Solitaire said...

@ Ghost,

Haha! To take home? NO!!

Solitaire said...

@ ancient,

No crystal ball. Only a camera recording the present.

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

There is a bookshelf in the "other corner". :)

Thanks!!!

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

Give me the suggestion and I will take 50 dollars off. If the suggestion includes money to be spent then nothing will be taken off.

Sameera Ansari said...

Such a cozy place! :)

gP said...

Pavi!!!! said...

Warm n cozy ..yes! i like the wall-paper n colors u've used.

But will u be using more lights when ur actually in-session with ur client?
Also where will u be sitting during the session?

Anonymous said...

Due to the colors that you are using, I know it is a very warm place.. Make you feel as if you are your own home.... You will get them to open up quick!!

Solitaire said...

I hope they do!
One client called it "cute"!

Solitaire said...

@ Pavi,

I will probably use one more small lamp in session but definitely nothing more than that. I will be sitting on the chair which you can see while the client will be right opposite me.

Thanks!!!

Sorry for the duplicate comment - was trying to fix (d) to (s) and guess both comments were published.

Well just one question - do all patients cry? - if not - isnt it better to hand them the tissues when they do as a gesture...(just a thought)

Hiren said...

i am sure some of your clients do visit you to just sit in such a cozy corner with a beautiful doc :-p

rayshma said...

Solitaire said...

@ Metrosexual,

Are you kidding me? My jaw dropped when I read that comment!!!

I actually had to check and no its not that. Its a MADISON something!

Solitaire said...

@ Urv,

Wallpaper is a bedsheet. :)

GMG said...

Hi Solitaire!
It looks cozy enough... ;)

I’ll finally get some days off this year; not much, just from Friday night (September 5th) through Monday morning (September 15th). But I don’t leave you empty hands: a beautiful beach and lots of champagne wait for you at Blogtrotter. Enjoy!

Vaudevillian said...

haha! I couldn't help but notice it held a striking resemblance to mine which was right in front of me when I saw this.

Solitaire said...

@ Vaudevillian,

It does? I wanna see a picture of yours too!

Solitaire said...

@ GMG,

Thanks!! Will come around soon!

Solitaire said...

@ Rayshma,

Then do so! Its long overdue. :)

Solitaire said...

@ Nik,

Haha! Usually dimly light when I am by myself in the room..more lamps on when the client is in there.

Solitaire said...

@ SMM.

Haha! Not anymore..Now it has business cards and pamphlets and what-nots on the table.

Solitaire said...

@Joie,

thanks!

Solitaire said...

@ Hiren,

Haha!! Thanks!! A lot many people have told me that...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

SOME patients cry. Not all.

I did not understand that tissue statement. Can you explain?

Solitaire said...

@ La vida,

Wil do..Sorry have been swamped!

Solitaire said...

@ Iceman,

Haha! What do you think?

Solitaire said...

@ Prachi,

Thanks!!! :)
This is the first time I decorated and loved it!

Solitaire said...

@ Anwesa,

Thanks! Is that good or bad?

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi,

Thanks!!

Solitaire said...

@ CG,

Thanks!!

Solitaire said...

@ Ash89,

Thanks!! It is for clients your age. I am glad you liked it.

Solitaire said...

@ monika,

sure thing!! Come over.

Solitaire said...

@ Vandita,

What's stopping you? come!!

Solitaire said...

@ Still thinking,

Maybe...are you thinking of going to one?

Solitaire said...

@ Broca,

Yeah..I know...but will have more lamps on in session. Vaise bhi I don't have to do a physical examination like you doctor saab. :p

ceedy said...

Well since only SOME do - my point is isn't it better for you to hand the napkins to the SOME who do cry...rather than they sitting there for everyone...since it is your personal space....

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

Are tissues only used for people who cry? I can write an essay long comment here regarding why the tissues are there but will refrain from doing so.

Chaggoholic.... said...

Looks like a Crystal maze mantle and a gypsy just about coming with her tarot card set and spells book;)

ceedy said...

No I dont want to be enlightened on Tissue Issues as it seems irrelevant in this case.

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

Precisely my point. I wonder why you brought it up in the first place.

Solitaire said...

@ Chaggoholic,

Haha! that's my secret profession.

ceedy said...

Well I guess it got sidetracked...my initial thought was the look of the container...of the tissues did not go well with what you had created...and so was asking you if it is necessary to have it up on the table...and if yes then maybe you cld buy a maroon or beige tissue dispenser...(but then that was spending money)

makes sense?

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

***It requires spending so let it be

***Well just one question - do all patients cry?

The chain of events do not really make sense.Should they have? Your last comment, does though.
So all's well that ends well, I guess (if it has ended here).

ceedy said...

Yes the chain of events did not have a connection...so summarized in the last comment...

It is all well and it does end here

How do we know said...

I like the colors in a way.... however, i m a pastels person and would find the reds a little intimidating.. on a good day, this is great, but on a bad day when i need talking, this isnt my best first day getup for a room.. but then again, u r there to put ppl at ease methinks :-)

Let me start with what i like from a laymans point of view...

# The chair is ok...not very cushy cushy nor very hard..would accomodate all sizes of "tashreefs"
Is low level..i guess that wd help the cleint to look at you at eye level..instead of looking down up(on) you.. :)

#The lighting structural form is good..basic..with a good mix of glass ..metal...and wattage

#I am sure the highlight would be you..among all ..

What i found bad..no lets call it amusing....

# The background ...is trying hard to go ethnic...is actually distracting...i find only a little warmth in it...in fact i find myself trapped in those sqaures and polygons...i guess the client comes to a psycho to free him/her self..

The table cloth.....plzzzzzz dump them right away..else just leave it topless ..i am sure the table top wd have its own wooden character..and those ironed creased lines...never do that...

what are those terracota things doing on the table...why are they empty..why are they their in the first place..why cant u go minimalistic...

The plant does nt gel with the atmosphere at allllllllll.

Sorry ..honest opinions...the place looks like a makeshift FBI confession room .

Joy deep Majumder said...

On second thoughts..may be i wd have liked it in person...bcoz i beleive a place is just a three dimensional coordinate..it can be tamed...by the human dimension..with life...i am sure yr presence fills those missing dimensions...and make the corner worth visiting..

Though i wdnt like to visit a psycho..anytime soon..:)

Anil Sawan said...

its colorful -> yes, its vibrant -> yes.. but the usage of "client corner"?? ter maybe people who just think that they are not loved or not getting enuf attention and people who are scared of lonliness, people who need re-assurance.. how could a "corner" justify their needs? maybe you could do more things to make them feel like one among the crowd!
