I have heard a lot of people say that they have OCD because they clean too much.
Can you give me some examples of OCD like behavior that you have experienced or witnessed?

Visiting Short and Sweet?
i wudnt call it disorder but i sometimes tell mum that she washes her hands way too many times in a day ... :-/ i dunno of any that wud qualify for OCD
I'm OCD in human form!
This is what I do:
**wash my hands even after touching the fridge. (no it's not dirty but I just hv to wash my hands before leaving the kitchen even if I didnt do anything in there!)
**things hv to be in the right places at ALL TIMES, aligned and all yes! Or else I'd get a migraine
**bed has to be made and look so neat n tidy, bathroom has to be dry and clean etc etc before I leave home for work
**after dinner, everything (pots, pans, cutlery, crockery etc) will be washed, dried and placed in their respective places and floor mopped or else I cant sleep
**if something is broken in the house, it has to be replaced/fixed ASAP or I'll feel like something is so wrong
**work-wise, I wanna finish everything real quick and to perfection, or else Im not happy at all
yes I know I've got OCD but Im happy :)
Keshi.
I am a victim of OCD..... besides washing hands often, I also check and re-check if doors are bolted, if the space under the bed is really empty etc..... But I make it certain that it does not go overboard!
LOL! I second Stupidosaur.
I think people have an OCD when it comes to facebook and orkut or any other social networking site, or checking email every 10 secs.
hmm OCD could be
the num of times i check gmail, my kitchen sink will almost never have vessels..i have a tendency to keep doin dishes!
or how V washes his hands before eating ANYTHING..ALL the time!
I have an entire blog dedicated to my battle with OCD. Some of my compulsions include cleaning, checking, and organizing. Often I have obsessions without the compulsions and these are usually the most distressing.
Does a person need to have more than one obsession to be deemed as a disorder?
My thing is washing hands....But the sad part is that I also like to wash the soap first..... I feel sometimes that there might be a layer of germs on the soap and I should cleanse that first....... I know it's dumb....
Sometimes while doing weights, I will think up of a number and I need to do more reps than that number or else something bad might happen to me....
If there are blocks or lines on the floor...I will avoid stepping on the lines, but then I think of this just as a game....
A friend of mine moves NOTHING from his apartment. Everything is set in a particular position, center table has to be particular distance from the couch, bar chairs have to be facing certain direction and should have the same angle etc And if someone goes and moves it, he has to go and change it back to how it was. He will keep staring at it otherwise! We tease him a lot but it could be serious, right?
I have many, but to list one here...lately, after I lock my car (and I dont have a remote), I walk few steps and every single time I have to go back and check if I really locked it. Not sure how to overcome this.
I keep washing my hands too! If I dont wash my hands for a while, I feel like they're getting very warm! Stupid reason but I keep doing it anyway!
(read it in a parsi accent)
Aain dhikra...baddhu sojuu che ne....

I dont know if this constitutes OCD, but my cousin has to have his food arranged a particular way on his plate. No mixing between the food till he actually selects it and mixes it... he eats quickly but its crazy just to serve him anything
My co players in snooker say that i have an OCD of playing positional while playing snooker, even at the cost of missing the easy initial regimental red balls...
I cannot help it...easy pot is everones game...positional play is what i seek...even at the cost of losing a match....
I have opened up all the gadgets in my home...some i cd get back to its previous condition...most i cdnt...:)
But i cannot resist this urge to see its parts..and their functions...
My kinetic sculptures are always in a perpetual cyclic mode of assembling ...running...disammebling ..i always find a way to add another attribute to it..its actually a pain..and eats up lot of time...
Presently i am obsessed with Big Boss :)
aaha! ocd it is.. how can cleaning hands multiple times or washing clothes fall in to OCD?? yes, they r surely obsessions.. but OCD has a second part, hasn't it?? where is the compulsion..
herez one eg.. i can't pass a church without drawing a cross.. well wheres the OCD here?? well.. no matter how much i tell myself i dont have to do it.. i will end up doing it.. seriously.. i sometimes tell myself, 'look.. this one time.. just to show u can stop doing it, dont do it..' but some other voice tells me i should and gives me thousand reasons why i shd.. and i cannot ignore that voice and do it.. :-(..
so will it become a disorder just coz we r compelled to do something which we are obsessed about?? well.. not exactly.. its a disorder when we don't enjoy that obsession.. if we enjoy washing hands, which has that element of compulsion as well in some ppl, then why call it a disorder?? its after all a healthy habit.. but the moment we stop enjoying it.. the moment we start feeling.. 'why the hell can't i stop washing my hands.. i dun want to wash this much..', then i guess u shd call solitaire.. :-)
but, can u tell me whether this has any name or not?? for what i just did.. explaining OCD to a shrink.. i must definitely be out of my mind..
thanks for this post, i finally get to comment on ur blog, though i've been a regular here for the past one month..
lol! Ceedy, I loved those Parsi lines.
I don't know if what I'm saying is OCD, maybe being cautious but I still don't like myself doing them once too often like;
- Checking if I have unplugged after ironing.
- Checking if I've locked the door properly while leaving home. Many a times I come all the way back from the parking lot just to recheck.
I'm normal right?
After reading the comments it looks like the whole world is suffering from OCD! :)
Keshi.
uff....finally found one....since u posted this one..i was like...oh i dun have any ..but i do
I have to put water to every utensil i use...even if it is just washed :D
btw...happy navratras gujjuben! :)
Common solitaire....tell me ..do i need to see a doc...
and yes...i seem to have developed an OCD towards viewing yr posts...:)
OCD.. One of my friend is a psychologist. So she usually tells us about the disorders. After she told us abt OCD, we all friends concluded that her husband (our friend as well) has OCDST (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder of Sexual Thoughts) hahaha.. Because he takes some other meaning of every single thing we say! In fun way ofcourse! I just remembered that as soon as I read ur post!
Apart form fun part, I have not seen any serious patient of OCD in my life yet. Haan.. My mother has OCD symptoms of doing WORK!
hey would checking blog repeatedly for comments count???
And may I add that not seeing one really disappoints.
for me..
everything have to be aligned properly at right angles. My laptop, books, etc. I just can't stop arranging them until they are perfectly aligned. kinda frustrating at times..
Since I was tiny, I sometims feel as if my body parts aren't "balanced". I don't think I can explain that. But I've always tried to make my steps equal, with the same pressure on each foot. Especially when I'm nervous. It's not as bad as it sounds, it's fun mainly 'cause I don't always do that.
Then I need to pop my fingers all the time. That's bad. I know. But can't live without it. BOTH the hands, very important.
I always shut the cupboard doors completely or else I get paranoid. That someone's peering outside sitting in there. Creepy.
Aligning stuff not quite symmetrically but in a mess, unlike my father. Controlled chaos, I call it. I make the "mess" look aesthetically pleasing.
Oh, there are many other signs. By the way, I'm going to study Psychology after school. Your blog's real interesting!
And thanks for dropping by on my blog!! :)
Hmmm, I can think of two OCDs
I have to close all doors before i sleep like my room doo, the bathroom door or even the closet door has to be snapped shut and i have to hear the door click shut!
I have to salt in all the dishes i make three times or multiples of three; however the multiples have to be odd numbers...
yeah, i am crazy too and kinda proud of it ;) :) :P
Checking mails every hour even though there is no mail on sundays.
Checking sms/missed calls while waiting for bus on stops !(does not apply to me but then I think this is OCD )
I am so obsessive with security in our place of residence. I always see to it that our door is locked and secured especially at night. Even during daytime, I would always remind my housemates to lock the door. I have read so many instances of forced entries by burglars and addicts and the horrible things they do to their victims. I would not want those things to happen to my family and loved ones. Thanks for the nice post. God bless.
I switch the light on and off three times before I go 2 sleep.
Whenever I drink anything, say Pepsi, I always take 4 sips...
the list is endless
I hate to admit it but I am a toilet cleaner like at least 4 to 5 times aday! LOL!! I dunno why..
Then there is everything has to be n order.. Colors have to stay with colors... Short to long... I need help! hahahaha
most of us hav it in us in various forms i guess....for my mom its that everything has to be clean alwyas...and in order...she sometimes goes into this overactive cleaning phase....clenaing teh dsut, moving thisngs around...cant hav it the same way always...have to keep the kitchen clean and wases all the dishes in btetween the cooking, keeps brusging her teeth after eating anything, washing hands all the time and asking servants to do so each and every moment...
for me i want the bathroom clean at all time and dry, i want the toilet seat up, wanna c my things where i had kept it, try and rrange things in particular order in fridge, in special closed containers and stuff....the list is longgg....
i wash my hands all the time, i clean the dishes all by myself before using them!!! :P
i dont know technically it qualifies or not...
oh yes. i know someone who is always putting things in place-eternally straighteneing pile of books, always tidying office table, side board, newpaper rack. She even absent mindedly tidies up the the centre table of drawing rooms of the house she visits if she finds papers and magazine scattered!
in the kitchen, she is unbearable.
things out of place make her livid with anger.
is this OCD?
Good blog!
